Trump's Team Set to Seize Nearly $2 Billion From Cornell and Northwestern

The Trump administration has blocked over $1 billion in federal funds destined for Cornell University and halted approximately $790 million intended for Northwestern University, as stated by an official from the same administration.
The federal government is probing both institutions over allegations of civil rights infractions as part of an intensifying effort targeting prestigious research universities nationwide. The most recent funds under scrutiny involve grants and agreements with agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
A representative from Northwestern University stated that they have not been informed officially regarding any funding freeze. In a communication to the Cornell community, President Michael I. Kotlikoff mentioned that although the institution has not verified the $1 billion amount, earlier that day, the college had "been issued over 75 stop work directives" concerning areas such as national defense, cyber security, and health studies by the Department of Defense.
"The impacted grants encompass research into novel materials for jet engines, propulsion systems, extensive information networks, robotics, superconductors, and space and satellite communication, along with cancer studies," stated Kotlikoff.
Over $10 billion in funding has since been withdrawn, halted, or is currently being evaluated at leading educational institutions including Columbia , Harvard Princeton, Brown, and the University of Pennsylvania.
President Trump has pledged to target universities that his administration sees as breeding grounds for liberalism, where they believe Jewish students were not adequately safeguarded amid pro-Palestinian demonstrations that have unsettled campuses over the past two school years.
The administration has also directed funds towards university programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion—referred to as DEI—as well as other initiatives they claim do not align with the priorities set by the previous Trump administration.
On Tuesday, the Commerce Department declared that it would terminate approximately $4 million allocated to Princeton University for initiatives they claimed overstated climate dangers and led to "climate anxiety" amongst younger generations.
