Joy in Unity: Popular Sheffield Cafe Elm Expands with New Evening Restaurant
A well-known café known for using locally sourced and ethically produced goods is expanding its operations by launching a new venture – an evening eatery that aims to provide a 'cozy' ambiance.

Elm, located on Glossop Road – merely steps away from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital – is indeed a uniquely eccentric place.

Throughout the day, vinyl records spin in the air, accompanied by a choice of wines and coffees – with the coffee being supplied by Field Day Roasters from Penistone. Twin co-owners Nik and Jon Daughtry have successfully crafted an evocative space nestled at the core of the city.
Now, they intend to take their passion project to the next level by transforming the area into an evening restaurant with the assistance of professional chef Nathan Hall.
“We’ve been doing something called bistro pop for the last 12 months or so,” Nik told The Star.
Every month, we'd invite a guest chef to join us, and that was how we first met Nathan.
It was evident from the beginning that Nathan’s creations were of remarkable quality, utilizing locally-sourced ingredients which resonated well with our approach during the daytimes operations.
There was simply this type of camaraderie and shared passion for our work — so following a discussion where Nathan mentioned he was seeking a restaurant venture, we expressed our readiness to join forces and host him in the evenings.

Regulars of the daytime cafe don’t have to worry, as this upcoming restaurant - which is set to open on April 25 - will not affect any of the services customers are used to.
After the café shuts down at 3:30 pm, employees get busy, and from Wednesday through Saturday starting at 5:30 pm, the place transforms into a restaurant.
Customers will be treated to monthly-changing, set menus of four or seven courses, with options available for vegetarians, vegans and those with allergies.
And while the hospitality sector continues to face troubles in a post-pandemic world, Nik says that he’s ‘excited’ for this new venture.
"We're thrilled — since the previous bistro event was just a month back, the transition has been quite straightforward," he mentioned.
The sector is somewhat facing challenges due to rising costs across the board, however, we're lucky as we already possess this facility.
One of the largest costs for individuals launching new enterprises is securing a premises; since this has been addressed, expanding seems like a logical step.
During the daytime, we have a warm, friendly atmosphere – for the evening meal, we’ll keep that same feeling.
It may not be fancy dining – the food is superb, but it’s equally about enjoying each other’s company and having a good time.
