Football Star Shockingly Debuts Beer Can Tattoo as His First Ever Ink

  • A star from the Adelaide Crows has spoken up about getting his inaugural tattoo this weekend.
  • Darcy Fogarty took the plunge and decided to get a beer can inked on his arm

Adelaide Crows star Darcy Fogarty has got a can of Cooper's beer tattooed on his bicep as part of a paid promotion ahead of this week's Gather Round fixtures.

The Crows face off against Geelong this Friday evening and will be eager to return to victory following their contentious one-point loss. Gold Coast on Saturday.

Fogarty, who scored three goals in that game, posted an excerpt of himself on Instagram heading into Uncle Winston's tattoo parlour in Adealaide on Sunday to get the new piece of ink.

Upon walking into the store, the 25-year-old shared with his audience that this was going to be his very first tattoo.

Fogarty posted on Instagram, "Choosing something special for my debut tattoo. I went with Coopers Brewery."

Cooper responded in the remarks: "Your first will always stick with you."

The beer corporation claims to be Australia's biggest family-run brewery and is recognized as one of the globe's leading providers of home brewing kits.

Established in 1862 by Thomas Cooper, the brewery located in Adelaide equally emphasizes the environmentally friendly manufacturing of its goods.

Channel 7's Mitch Cleary indicated that Fogarty stood to gain significantly financially from this maneuver, though questions were raised about potential violations of the AFL's sponsorship regulations.

The football league has maintained a longstanding collaboration with Carlton Draught, whereas Asahi Beverages serve as the league’s official drink partners alongside Gatorade and Cool Ridge water.

According to the AFL’s guidelines on sponsorships, players must be advised not to enter into any sponsorship, endorsement, or similar business agreement that might obligate or necessitate them to promote or support suppliers of products and/or services competing with AFL Protected Sponsors or AFL Club Protected Sponsors.

However, Cleary informed Channel Seven News that the tattoo does not violate that decision, as Coopers apparently do not compete with the league's safeguarded sponsors.

'Cleary mentioned that Fogarty will definitely get a financial boost from this relocation, whereas Coopers are already partners with the Crows.'

It's reminiscent of when Geelong's Garry Hocking decided to change his name to the cat food brand Whiskas as a fundraising effort for Geelong, during a time when the club was heavily indebted.

This development has sparked queries regarding the extent to which athletes can pursue paid endorsements and collaborations.

This incident followed Western Bulldogs player Rory Lobb getting a pink lobster design shaved onto the back of his head.

The Crows have had an excellent beginning to the season, with a record of 3 wins out of their first 4 games.

However, they will be disappointed about not being able to keep up their unbeaten streak this weekend due to a contentious call that left Crows manager Matthew Nicks quite irritated.

This followed the AFL announcing on Sunday that the match officials had disallowed Izak Rankine from taking a mark within the Crows' forward fifty with only two minutes remaining in the game.

Rankine had the chance to put Adelaide back in front with another attempt at goal.

'With 1.44 remaining in the Gold Coast v Adelaide match Rankine should have been awarded a mark,' the AFL conceded. 'Subsequently, he was also held in the marking contest, which should have also warranted a free kick. Upon review, the umpires missed it in real-time.

The AFL football department reached out to Adelaide earlier today.

If the Crows had won the match, it would have marked their first such achievement since 2017, when they were crowned minor premiers, ensuring them an undefeated start with four wins at the beginning of the season.

After the match, Nicks stated, "When you reach the final moments of the game, we've managed to create an opportunity for ourselves—and at such times, even a little bit of fortune can make all the difference. However, during those last one and a half minutes, things did not go in our favor."

I would say there are quite a few upset fans of ours out there, and I empathize with them; I find myself somewhat sharing their sentiments.

'In my interpretation, if he didn’t mark it, then he’s playing in a tackling competition.'
