Antonio Brown Aids Father Accused of Leaving Kids at McDonald's for a Job Interview

Former NFL player Antonio Brown initiated a crowdfunding campaign to assist a father from Georgia who was detained after leaving his three kids unattended at a McDonald’s so he could attend a job interview.

Chris Louis, aged 24, was apprehended by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and faced charges of depriving a minor on March 22.

Louis reportedly abandoned his kids, who are one, six, and ten years old, at a fast-food joint in Augusta, where there’s an attached playground. An observant patron spotted the young ones unaccompanied and alerted law enforcement. When a sheriff arrived at the eatery, they discovered the children were not under adult supervision.

A witness reported seeing Louis with his kids at approximately 4:30 p.m. The father supposedly departed from the eatery, came back after some time, and then exited once more. During this period, Louis was separated from his children for under two hours.

Louis came back to the restaurant at approximately 6:18 p.m., whereupon he was apprehended by law enforcement officials. When questioned, he mentioned that he had been walking with his kids from their flat to the eatery and did not wish to have them trek all the way back as he needed to head off for a job interview, clarifying that he does not possess a vehicle.

The children’s mother arrived at the restaurant and took them from the scene as Louis was taken into custody.

The Independent sent an email to the sheriff’s office for more details.

Antonio Brown , a former wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, read a news story about the incident and launched a GoFundMe to help the man.

The “story caught me by surprise,” Brown wrote on the page. “A dad just trying to find a way to make money for his family. I know he shouldn’t just leave his kids, but some people don’t have the means for babysitting, etc.”

Brown, who has faced personal problems both on and off the field, mentioned that he has been in touch with GoFundMe and plans to hand over the collected money to the father and his relatives. He stated that he hasn’t communicated directly with the man yet but looks forward to doing so shortly.

The fundraising event has amassed more than $40,000 towards their $50,000 objective. Brown contributed $1,084 personally to the initiative.

Furthermore, he shared the fundraising initiative on his X account, stating: "Chris was chasing The Pursuit of Happyness, and sometimes people simply require assistance," alluding to the 2006 film featuring Will Smith as a destitute father striving to reconstruct his existence alongside his small child.

The Independent has always had a global perspective. Built on a firm foundation of superb international reporting and analysis, The Independent now enjoys a reach that was inconceivable when it was launched as an upstart player in the British news industry. For the first time since the end of the Second World War, and across the world, pluralism, reason, a progressive and humanitarian agenda, and internationalism – Independent values – are under threat. Yet we, The Independent, continue to grow.
