MONROE, LA (KNOE) — To fund the construction of playgrounds accessible to all children in the area, the Miracles to Milestones Organization is holding lemonade stands.
Restaurants in the Twin Cities area are pitching in for this year's charity event. James E. Simpson, who helped start Flying Tiger Brewing and Pizza Bar, expressed his gratitude for the chance to support the foundation.
He stated, "I've gained significant knowledge about inclusive playgrounds. It's something I hadn't encountered before, and I wasn't aware it was a concern. So, when Hillary [Miracles to Milestones Founder] contacted me, as always, I was happy to help."
While lemonade offers a refreshing escape from the heat, it provides more than just sugary satisfaction. According to Hillary Sirmon, the Founder of Miracles to Milestones, inclusive playgrounds hold significant value for kids.
According to her, "Playgrounds designed for everyone are crucial for children of all capabilities to interact. Children with physical challenges can benefit from interacting with their fully abled peers, and vice versa. It's vital, not only for children but also for adults, that we have opportunities to play together and that all children have equal access and rights on the playground."
It's deeply personal for Hillary to witness children with disabilities enjoying playtime just like their peers. Her son, Benjamin, was born with a unique genetic condition. Each playground that Miracles to Milestones has created is a tribute to him.
