UNLV Football Garners Significant Recognition in 2025 Preseason All-Mountain West Teams
Following two of its most successful seasons in program history, the UNLV football team has received considerable attention in the 2025 Preseason All-Mountain West selections, announced by Athlon Sports. A total of 11 Rebels earned spots on the prestigious list, signaling high expectations for the upcoming season.
First Team Honors
Leading the charge for UNLV are two standout players who secured First Team accolades. Junior running back Jai’Den "Jet" Thomas, a dynamic offensive threat who has already amassed 20 touchdowns in his first two seasons, was recognized for his exceptional talent and potential. Joining him on the First Team is senior linebacker Marsel McDuffie, a defensive stalwart who is the team’s leading returning tackler, both from last season and throughout his career. McDuffie’s experience and leadership will be crucial for the Rebels' defense in 2025.
Third Team Selections
The Rebels' impressive showing continued with five players named to Athlon’s Third Team. This group consists entirely of transfers, highlighting the impact of new additions to the program. On the offensive side, quarterback Anthony Colandrea (formerly of Virginia), wide receiver Troy Omeire (formerly of Arizona State), and center Reid Williams (formerly of Chattanooga) were all recognized. Their integration into the UNLV offense is expected to provide an immediate boost. Defensively, defensive lineman Jalen Lee (formerly of LSU) and safety Jaheem Joseph (formerly of West Virginia) earned Third Team honors. These players are anticipated to significantly strengthen the Rebels' defensive capabilities.
Fourth Team Honorees
Adding to the depth of talent recognized, four additional UNLV players were named to the Fourth Team. Wide receiver JoJo Earle (formerly of TCU) and offensive lineman Malik McGowan (formerly of North Carolina) represent the offensive selections. On the defensive side, defensive lineman Chief Borders (formerly of Pittsburgh) and cornerback Aamaris Brown (formerly of USF) were included. This widespread representation across different positions underscores the overall strength and potential of the UNLV squad.
Phil Steele's Preseason Recognition
In addition to the Athlon Sports selections, several Rebels were also featured on Phil Steele’s recently released 2025 Preseason Mountain West Team. Jalen Lee, Marsel McDuffie, and Jai’Den "Jet" Thomas were named to the Second Team, further solidifying their status as key players to watch. Troy Omeire and offensive lineman Austin Boyd earned spots on the Third Team, while Jaheem Joseph was included on the Fourth Team.
Looking Ahead to the 2025 Season
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Dan Mullen, the Rebels are set to embark on their 58th season of football. The season will commence on August 23 with a home game against Idaho State, marking the earliest game in program history. The team's performance this year is highly anticipated, given the influx of talent and the positive preseason recognition.
