Ducks' New WR Coach Lands Top Talent

The Oregon DucksOregon's recruiting efforts keep gaining momentum, landing another significant pledge for the 2027 class. Ross Douglas has been exceptionally successful in securing wide receiver commitments since joining the team.Dan Lanning’s staff.

On February 20th, Oregon officially named Douglas as their wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator. His arrival in Eugene has already made an impact, as he's been instrumental in recruiting a receiver ranked among the top 100 for the 2027 class, along with two receivers who rank in the top 150 for the 2026 class.

Douglas played a key role in guiding the Syracuse Orange to a leading passing attack in 2024, mirroring his previous responsibilities. Prior to that, he spent three years coaching wide receivers for the New England Patriots and also held coaching positions at Richmond and Rutgers.

This past Thursday, Douglas played a key role in securing a commitment from Kesean Bowman, a highly-rated five-star wide receiver from the 2027 class, for the Ducks. Bowman picked Oregon over other prominent programs including Ohio State, LSU, and Tennessee. On3 currently ranks him as the 10th-best receiver and the 51st-best player overall in the nation.

In an interview with RivalsChad Simmons reported that Bowman emphasized the strong relationships he developed with the Ducks' coaches, particularly with Douglas.

Bowman told Simmons that Oregon welcomed him, making him feel at ease and like he belonged. He enjoyed his time there, forging relationships. He added that he had a fantastic time with Coach Douglas, spending considerable time with him and enjoying the company of both him and the staff. He plans to return for a game.

Besides Bowman, Oregon also successfully recruited Jalen Lott, ranked 57th overall in the 2026 class, and Messiah Hampton, who holds the 104th spot in the same class.

Junior Adams, the program's former wide receivers coach, mentored several players who went on to professional careers, including Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. During his time with the Ducks, he guided exceptional athletes like Troy Franklin and Tez Johnson, both of whom were later selected in the NFL Draft. The team felt the sting of Adams' departure to the Dallas Cowboys during the off-season.

Oregon appears to have discovered a promising match in Douglas. He hasn't just started; he's been productive from the outset when it comes torecruits, however, Douglas apparently made a positive impression on both the staff and players in the course of offseason training.

"His on-field enthusiasm is infectious; he seems to be coaching constantly. He's learned from some excellent mentors, notably Coach (Bill) Belichick, and other coaches he's worked with. His experience on both sides of the ball, combined with his dedication to getting ahead, is impressive. He's really hit the ground running, building strong connections with the players." - Lanning

Since Lanning became head coach, the Ducks have consistently attracted highly-rated wide receiver recruits over the last four years. Lott and Hampton represent the initial wave of players Douglas helped secure for Eugene, but he will also coach Dakorien Moore, a five-star receiver who committed thanks to Adams' efforts.

Douglas is set to make his debut in an official game as a member of Lanning's coaching team when Oregon begins the 2025 season at.Autzen Stadiumfacing Montana State on August 30.
