Brits Flock to Hidden Sun-Kissed Isle With £1 Pints and 24°C Weather in June

Brits are heading to a largely undiscovered Greek island that offers great drink prices and amazing weather over the summer months. A report has revealed the Spain alternatives that British tourists are looking towards in search of quieter beaches and cheaper drinks, with one small island listed among the top places to go. Ionian Island Holidays has reported a "sharp increase" in bookings to the destination, praising it for its "charm and affordability".

Thasos ( also spelt Thassos ) is a small island located close to mainland Greece and boasts scenic beaches and affordable sunny getaways. Here, food and accommodation are cheap as are the beers in local taverns, which Ionian Island Holidays say can cost as low as €1 (around 85p). "Spain's popularity remains high, but growing costs and overcrowding are pushing holidaymakers to alternative destinations. Islands like Thasos, Lefkada and Agistri are increasingly popular due to their relaxed charm and affordability," the report says.

When it comes to the best beaches to visit, Thasos' scenic Marble Beach was praised for its "white-pebble shores and clear water". The holiday provider says that you won't need to " claim a sunbed at 7am - there's space for everyone".

Meanwhile, a double room in a local Thasos guest house can be booked for as little as £25 per night. Additionally, inter-island ferry services typically cost under £10.

"Families and couples can enjoy an entire day out, meals included, for the price of a single tourist attraction in other destinations," Ionian Island Holidays revealed. "Visitors often say they feel like they're in a real community, not a tourist zone. That authenticity is priceless."

"Our guests are looking for quality without excess...beautiful views, kind people and good food that doesn't cost a fortune," they added. The cheap meals was also listed as a top reason for visiting Thasos, with meals costing under £10 on average.

Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways offer seasonal direct flights to Preveza from UK airports including Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Heathrow , London Stansted and Manchester. There are then regional budget airlines that will take you to Thasos.

The temperatures in Thasos get quite hot over the summer months, reaching around 24C in June and 26C in July. In August, it gets as hot as 27C and in September it remains warm at 22C.

Among the top things to do on Thasos include Golden Beach, Paradise Beach, Aliki Beach, Metalia Beach and Tripiti Beach. There are plenty of beach bars dotted around the island, offering cheap drinks in the sunshine.

For those looking for a little culture while on Thasos, there is a highly-reviewed archeaology museum and an art gallery there. Social media users have had great things to do about Thasos.

In one Reddit thread, one user calle it "a lovely place" whole another said: "It's a couple/family island, not a party island. But its a cool place."
