Miami Music Project Set to Receive 2025 Arts and Education Inspiration Award

The Miami Music Project (MMP) has been chosen to receive the 2025 Arts and Education Inspiration Award during the forthcoming Serving the Arts Awards Ceremony scheduled for April 21st. This esteemed accolade underscores groundbreaking and effective art education programs designed to uplift young individuals and their families. MMP stands out as a pioneer in employing music as an instrument of societal transformation.
Anna Klimala, the MMP president and CEO, expressed their sentiments this way: “It’s with great honor that we accept the Arts and Education Inspiration Award for our Pathways Program. This accolade acknowledges the remarkable journeys of our students, who motivate us daily through their hard work and enthusiasm. The award strengthens our pledge to provide them with the necessary guidance and tools so they can achieve academic heights and more, leveraging music as a potent bridge to opportunities and triumph.”
Since its establishment in 2008, Miami Music Project has offered free-of-charge music instruction after school hours to over 33,000 pupils spread across 60 postal areas within Miami-Dade County.
Via its rigorous program inspired by El Sistema, students get 16 hours of teaching each week, which adds up to an impressive 576 hours per year. This approach nurtures their musical skills, fosters personal growth, builds leadership qualities, and enhances their ability to bounce back from challenges.
Currently, this organization supports over 860 students through seven different program locations, connecting gaps caused by economic disparities and guaranteeing equal opportunities for artistic engagement.
In 2024, Miami Music Project broadened its dedication to fostering student achievement by initiating the Pathways: College Mentor Program. This initiative aims to uphold the organization’s impressive track record of achieving a full hundred percent high school graduation and continued higher education enrollment rates. Under Klimala's leadership, this program connects each student with six committed mentors tasked with guiding them through the intricacies of college admissions processes, securing financial assistance, obtaining scholarships, and mapping out their future careers.
The program’s effectiveness is clear: out of 10 recent graduates, four obtained scholarships, two were admitted to Columbia University — including one who was awarded a QuestBridge scholarship — and three earned full-ride scholarships at Florida International University via the Gala and Stanley Cohen Scholarship.
The Miami Music Project has made an impact that extends far beyond local neighborhoods, achieving worldwide acknowledgment at the 2024 Music Cities Awards held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From a pool of 300 nominees hailing from 19 different nations, Anna Klimala received the “Award for Best Initiative Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in Music,” underscoring the organization’s role as a leader globally in using music to promote equality and inclusivity.
